Childbirth Knowledge

Build on your understanding of the physiology of labor, comfort measures, pain management, induction and augmentation, interventions, cesarean birth, informed consent, the Golden Hour, newborn procedures, and, how facts reduce fear and knowledge builds confidence for birthing parents.

Unbiased Education

You’ll be presented with facts and in turn, you will learn how to present evidence-based information with a thoughtful and well-balanced approach. This method respects varying birth philosophies and medical scenarios, while prioritizing individual philosophies and cultural influences.

Effective Teaching Skills

Through discussion-based education and interactive activities, you’ll develop the skills to edify adult learners. You’ll have a newfound ability to explain detailed information, inspire meaningful discussions, and create classes that positively impact the births of those in attendance.

Business Building

We will prepare you with the foundation to develop and facilitate engaging childbirth education classes, structure and package them, establish your pricing, market your services, attract participants, and create strategies for growing your business and your role as a Childbirth Educator.

Throughout this program, you will learn to:

Teach childbirth education to a diverse population of adult learners using evidence-based information that is presented without bias, judgment, or that favors any particular birth philosophy.
Educate families about pregnancy, labor, and birth, including prenatal care and testing, anatomy and physiology, signs and stages of labor, comfort measures, pain management options, induction and augmentation, common interventions, cesarean birth, and, the immediate postpartum period.
Present the choices available throughout childbirth in a way that helps expectant parents understand their options and feel empowered to make informed decisions.
Develop strong teaching and communication skills that allow you to engage different personalities and learning styles, while facilitating meaningful conversations, and bringing light to topics that may otherwise seem overwhelming.
Understand the boundaries and responsibilities of a professional Childbirth Educator, including your code of conduct and the importance of distinguishing education from medical advice.
Develop, package, and price your classes while learning how to attract clients, network with other birth professionals, and offer a service that enables the long-term growth of your business.

Accreditation and Contact Hours

ProDoula is an approved provider of nursing professional development by the South Carolina Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Training must be attended in its entirety in order to benefit from the 17 contact hours offered by the American Nurses Association.
