Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I am CPR current. I am a Certified PpD, Certificated Lactation Educator Counselor (CLEC), Child Passenger Safety Tech. (CPST), and AromaTouch Certified
What led you to become a Doula?: I began my journey into doula work after witnessing a trend amongst my girlfriends. Many of them struggled during their postpartum. They became distant, depressed, and overtly drained. Instead of chalking it up to hormones, I did my research on how I could help more. When I came across the definition of a postpartum doula, I realized that I had been performing as one unintentionally for family and friends for years. That’s when the click came and I knew my calling. Helping mothers to adjust to their new baby, new body, and new happenings is what fills my heart. Everyone could use that little extra, and I enjoy being that “extra”.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
I have been told that I have a big heart. That I think of and help others before myself. I see the good in everyone.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: My favorite parenting resource is www.kellymom.com. It’s a website dedication to breastfeeding, parenting and all facets of the journey. Kelly Bonyata is an IBCLC. The website is up-to-date and is easily available for a tired, stressed mom to access.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: When I see a new mom, a smile immediately spreads across my face. And then I wonder how I could be a service to her?
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: As a postpartum doula, the best gift I can give a new mom is the reassurance that she IS enough, and that she CAN do this!
