Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I’ve worked with kids and infants most of my life, both as a private babysitter/nanny and within a childcare environment. I have also found a deep passion in advocacy work for women, for which I am currently being trained as a Counselor/Advocate for Women’s Services, Inc.
What led you to become a Doula?: 13 years ago, I watched my baby brother’s birth. I was only 9 at the time, and it was utterly fascinating. Where many kids and even adults would be weirded out or even frightened by the natural labor process, I thought it was the coolest experience ever. In a strange sort of kismet, my labor doula training fell exactly on my brother’s 13th birthday – and 13 has always been my favorite number!
