Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: My post-college work experience was actually all about SUPPORT! I supported loan officers, I supported developers, I supported engineers. Now in my day to day life, I support my 2 young and growing children, to be the best they can be. I support my husband in his career and role as a father. And my true passion is now supporting moms in the throes of early motherhood. I also am currently the coordinator for a local MOPS( Mothers of Preschoolers) group and I love that role!

What led you to become a Doula?: I remember those early, SUPER hard, tough weeks with a newborn, when all you wanted was a nap and a meal you didn’t have to think about! (let alone the laundry mountain, cleaning, and all the second guessing yourself along the way). My goal as a postpartum doula is to be THAT person, that helped you, that made you feel like you aren’t insane and the one who let you know that being up 3 times a night with a newborn IS hard but you will get through it. I want to be the breath of fresh air, the one that has no agenda at your house other than to make you feel like you can be the mom you are called to be!

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

“ you have heart for moms in the thick of it, and it shines in all you do”, “your time, commitment and positive energy is great” , “your offering was a true demonstration of love”

What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: The community of wisdom in Fredericksburg is amazing. I know ladies that run a childbirth circle, as well as have friends that are La Leche League Leaders, and I know that I could call upon them anytime to answer questions or direct me in the right way. I also love kellymom.com for informative answers on babies and postpartum questions.

What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: carry on warrior! “ Is she getting the help she deserves and needs?” “Should I offer to hold her baby so she can find her keys!?”

What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: I want to be the breath of fresh air, the one that has no agenda at your house other than to make you feel like you can be the mom you are called to be! A supportive, gentle and guiding presence. I’d like to leave her with the feeling that her time with me was well worth the investment in her new role as a mom.

What is your favorite TV show or movie?: I actually don’t watch too much TV but I do indulge (and sometimes hide my eyes ) in Game of Thrones. My husband and I do like movies and watch probably one a week. An old favorite would be The Thomas Crown Affair, new favorite would be Ex Machina

What is your favorite place to vacation?: Really loved where we went on a honeymoon, Curacao! Anywhere beachy is pretty cool, and the Bahamas was a nice Christmas getaway one year. Really anywhere I don’t have to cook too often or do endless laundry!

What is your favorite food?: A good bacon cheeseburger and onion rings is ideal! Top it off with a chocolate shake or brownie sundae!

What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: What’s that?! Just kidding! I have been away for a few days by myself in recent history and just getting to go to the bathroom or read in the quiet by myself was amazing!

Who lives in your house?: My computer nerd husband, our crazy preschool age son and our adorable but feisty toddler daughter. We also have 2 cats who are subjects of endless enjoyment for the kids.
