Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I am a mom of five; when I brought baby number five home I had five children under that age of seven. Life was crazy, but it's the only life I know. I have been a stay at home mom since we brought our first child home, but have also worked from home for over three years. I am good at juggling - it seems the crazier life is the calmer I am. I like to find solutions that promote ease; whether it's meal planning or scheduling family outings where all ages are enjoying themselves, I like to plan the whole picture. Having five children I have seen a lot and been through a lot; now I'm ready to share what I know with others and hopefully make the transition home with baby a little easier.
What led you to become a Doula?: I love children; they bring me joy. A crying baby never upsets or irritates me, I just want to help calm him/her and ease whatever is upsetting them. I grew up in my grandmother's daycare - over 25 children at one time! Then God blessed me with five of my own; I just want to use the knowledge and skills I have to help others.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
Sparkly (glitter is my favorite color)
Thinking of others
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Other mothers - love connecting and learning from those who have been through it. Also, ProDoula documents and my mentor at A Mother's Perspective.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: How can I help you? I always want to ask questions - how are you? is this your first baby? how are you feeling? Always curious to see if they need anything because in today's world a lot of people don't ask questions and a lot of people suffer in silence; I like to start the conversation.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Sleep; ease of knowing their baby is being cared for by a professional and they can focus on their own recovery and rest while I take care of baby.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Bravo reality shows - guilty pleasure!!
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Beaches of Delaware
What is your favorite food?: I love deli sandwiches - club with chips and a soda!
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: With my family - no to do's, no schedule - just pajamas, movies, and cuddles.
Who lives in your house?: My husband of 11 years, our children - Liam, Claire, Landon, Camille, and Casey Lynn, and our two fur babies Patches and Daisy
