Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: From a very young age I was interested in helping families. I was a babysitter, got my CPR certification, volunteered wherever I could, and babysat whenever possible. Once I had my own baby, I became a source of encouragement and advice for my friends having children. I also have a background in safety, so that is a top priority. I currently have my CPR/First Aid/ AED Certification as well as an OSHA 10 hour certification.
What led you to become a Doula?: Having a baby. There’s nothing more life-changing than the birth of a child. It made me rethink everything.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
Everyone told me that I was “such a natural at this pregnancy thing”, or “made life with a baby look so easy”. Friends just naturally migrated to me with questions and concerns or for advice. It seemed like a natural next step to become a certified postpartum doula. I have a real passion for helping families.
“Having Alyssa in our home feels like an extension of family! From helping out with the baby, cleaning, organizing-she brings a sense of calm and relaxation to our home. Her help has allowed me the opportunity to take some time for self care and strive for that balance that can be so difficult to find after having a baby. What a rarity to find that special person who is gifted at holding sacred space!”
“Alyssa has an innate sense for what a new mom needs, and is a natural caregiver and self-described neat freak. She is wonderful with both my newborn and 3 year old. My house was in order and the baby was bathed before I even noticed she had started working! Hiring Alyssa during those first crazy weeks at home with a newborn is a great way to get some much needed rest or just take a little breather for yourself. Your babe will be in great hands!”
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: I usually consult any number of books in my home library or go to my community of doulas.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: There’s nothing more beautiful than a woman when she’s pregnant. Seeing a baby bump, large or small, always makes me smile (and secretly wish I was pregnant again).
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Helping hands, a listening ear, and a comforting smile.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Call the Midwife. Every episode makes me cry. New Girl. Every episode makes me laugh.
What is your favorite place to vacation?: It’s a toss up between Thailand and Spain.
What is your favorite food?: Filet Mignon. Medium well. And brussel sprouts
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Doing anything outdoors with my family, getting fresh air and sunshine.
Who lives in your house?: I live with my tall, dark, and handsome husband and my beautiful, funny, and feisty little girl.
