Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: As a mom, I suffered from postpartum depression for years, only to truly recover after having my ovaries removed. I began to see my journey more clearly and felt compelled to help new moms during this challenging time in life. My own baby was difficult to soothe, wouldn't take a bottle or pacifier, and woke up every 2 hours until he was 18 months old. Therefore, I read every book! I tried so many techniques. I found what worked for my baby, and I have so much knowledge because of my journey. I am "just so calm", as so many friends describe me, and I have a way of quickly picking up on a babies' cues. My work as a Postpartum Doula and Infant Care Specialist sparks joy in my heart and is so fulfilling! I thoroughly enjoy supporting new moms and caring for infants.

What led you to become a Doula?:

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

I highly recommend Amanda as a caregiver. She is always on time, reliable, and great with our children.

She has exceeded all our expectations—the babies have a lot of fun with her, and we don’t need to provide any oversight or direction. She had their routine down immediately and quickly developed a relationship with them, they were comfortable with her right off the bat. It’s also nice that with her experience, we can ask her advice on how to handle different situations or what to expect in different developmental stages.

What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Dr. Oz "YOU: Having a Baby", Tracy Hogg "Secrets of the Baby Whisperer", Marc Weissbluth "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child", and a subscription to Lovevery. I am glad I read "On Becoming Baby Wise", since every mom I have worked with seems to follow it. I has good bones, but I don't agree with everything in the book.

What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: A smile.

What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: A helping hand and a listening ear.

What is your favorite TV show or movie?:

What is your favorite place to vacation?: Any beach.

What is your favorite food?:

What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: I like to spend time with my family and friends by going for a hike or a bike ride.

Who lives in your house?: My husband, my son, and our cat.
