Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: Being a doula is about supporting another human being, which I have been doing most of my life. I have always felt called to care for others, whether that be as a camp counselor when I was young, a counselor as an adult, a youth worker, woman's group leader and now a mother. I have supported women throughout all kinds of different births, and find that I absolutely love seeing a woman do what she was designed to do -- bring life into the world! It is my joy to be a woman's cheerleader and remind her of her strength through one of the most significant events of her life.

What led you to become a Doula?: I had a doula at each one of my births, and found that their presence and the strength they brought was absolutely invaluable to my experience. Because they gifted me with confidence and power to bring my babies into the world, I want to do the same for others.

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

People tell me that I am a great encourager, tenacious, and have a very stick-to-it-ness about things. They also comment that I love life and bring “flair” and laughter with me.

What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: The best resources are other moms and dads that are brave enough to live authentically in front of others. I also rely on facebook group forums and blogs, as well as websites like Evidence Based Birth and Spinning Babies.

What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: My first thought is to make sure they feel supported. Pregnancy and childbirth can be scary if you feel alone or are not sure where to turn, so I love to just check in with them and "how they're doing on the inside."

What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: My best gift to a new mom is to help her feel confident in her own ability to birth, to remind her that she CAN do this (however "this" may look), and to give her the assurance that she has at least one person that believes in her

What is your favorite TV show or movie?: My favorite movie is Father of the Bride with Steve Martin

What is your favorite place to vacation?: Holbox, Mexico

What is your favorite food?: Steak

What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Bingeing on Netflix, reading an occasional chapter of a book with a fire lit and a yummy drink of some sort on hand.

Who lives in your house?: My sweet husband of 10 years Dan; my 6-year-old Michaela; and my 4-year-old Boaz.
