Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have worked in the health care field for 10+ years in many different areas. I have excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills and I am able to maintain composure under pressure. I have a wide range of communication skills as I began working at an early age and in a wide variety of customer satisfaction roles.
What led you to become a Doula?: I have always been interested in every aspect of health and well-being. I more recently became interested in birth work to be able to impact our future generations at an earlier stage. I want to integrate into the birth, neonatal, and developmental side of healthcare to become a more well-rounded professional.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
Positive comments I have heard from friends and colleagues are:
“You are very good at explaining things in a way that is easy to understand.” -clients and colleagues
“You are always a positive presence even in the most difficult times.”-former client
“You are work efficiently and always know what to do.” -current client
“You will be amazing at anything involving detail and care giving, your clients will be lucky to have you!” -colleague
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: I don't have any favorite resources at the moment as I don't currently have any children. As a new parent I would likely take a look at Nurture and Thrive's website, as it looks like a good place to start if you don't know where to start.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: Some thoughts that come to my mind when I see a pregnant person or someone with a brand new baby are: I wonder what kind of day they are having? I wonder if someone told them they are doing a good job and that they are beautiful today. I wonder if they need help and what that help looks like to them.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: The best gift I can give new parents is peace of mind and organization when everything feels chaotic and disorganized.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Anything medically related
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Anywhere other than where I am now
What is your favorite food?: I love ethnic foods
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: I like to relax and catch up on some must watch tv and get out of my own head.
Who lives in your house?: I currently live with my boyfriend of 7+ years and together we have 2 female cats, Billie and Taz, as well as 2 male betta fish Merry and Pippin. We are both in school finishing up bachelor degrees and do what we can to spend time together when we have "free time."
