Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I grew up as an only child and have loved caring for infants and little kids since I was just barely one myself.
What led you to become a Doula?: After a journey through fertility challenges, I became a mom to one son in 2015. I have always loved all things pregnancy, birth, and new parenthood-related. As a doula, I am thrilled to share that enthusiasm and knowledge with my clients.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
I am often told I have a soothing “yoga teacher” voice and I tend to have a calming effect on those around me.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Some of my favorite resources include https://plussizebirth.com/, https://yogainternational.com/ (great online pre and postnatal classes), and https://lilynicholsrdn.com/ (preconception and pregnancy nutrition info).
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: Whenever I see a pregnant person or someone with a new baby, I am so excited for her/him. I am eager to lend support in whatever way is helpful, including minding my own business ;)
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: The best gift a birth worker can give new parents is the ability to hold space for them. That allows them to express and/or process their experience in a supported way.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Firefly
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Hawaii
What is your favorite food?: Steak
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: I love lounging at home and/or going to get a massage.
Who lives in your house?: I live with my husband, son, and mother-in-law. We are a full house but support one another well.
