Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: Andrea has a passion for working with people and finding out what makes them tick. Her background includes a Bachelors degree in Forestry and a Masters degree in Community Services. She enjoys especially seeing and being part of the community that surrounds women and mothers. She has traveled extensively throughout the world but now is rooted near Marquette, MI.

What led you to become a Doula?: Truly, it was my own births that sparked my interest in birth work. Paralleling that timeline, I met Melinda Britton and was intrigued with the idea of being a birth worker. Long conversations with her about it propelled me to wanting to know more.

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

People often say I am very dedicated, reliable and trustworthy. I am known to follow through on my commitments.

What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: The Birth Partner by Penny Simkin

What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I think how very beautiful they are. I think how trying this time is, but it is equally wonderful and awe-inspiring. I think "savor this...." -- it really does go as fast as they say.

What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: The gift of patience, love and time. No issue is too small to talk about. I want to hear about how they are doing, feeling and being.

What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Downton Abbey

What is your favorite place to vacation?: Stay-cations in our backyard, to be honest!!

What is your favorite food?: Shrimp Risotto

What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: A blend of fresh air, hiking, good cups of coffee, time with a friend, knitting and if possible, baking or cooking a new recipe.

Who lives in your house?: Four amazing men -- one that I am so very blessed to be married to, and 3 little ones (ages 7, 4 and 1) that we are raising to be gentle, kind and strong. We have 5 backyard chickens. Occasionally, beings that we live remote, we have deer, turkey, bear and other wild animals that grace us with their beauty.
