Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I am a proud momma to 4 and a ProDoula pre-certified labor doula. I have a deep passion for family and that lead me to receive my Masters in Counseling Psychology. I have various other certifications and an unquenchable love of learning. I strive daily to develop myself personally and professionally.
What led you to become a Doula?: I noticed that between the birth of my first special baby and my last sweet one…the hands on support the care givers were able to provide was hindered. I am unsure of why this change has happened, but I know that I do not want any woman to be without full on support during birth. It is a precious and special time. A time for family bonding and first moments. In the past 8 years, I have attended many births in different capacities from photography to birth support. I love it! I cannot tell you how it feels to see this miracle of birth, but each time I get goosebumps! Being hands on support to a family prenatally through birth and to see the beautiful moments postpartum…moms and dads, I live for this!
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
“I’ll tell you this young lady, Angela Jenks, is wonderful person to have with you along your journey. She was with my wife and I through our last journey with our little boy Benjamin (our 5th). She was right with Michele, working with her and very supportive. I’d recommend her because of the Godly, loving, family oriented woman that she is. A true blessing to any family.” ~Tom A.
“A wonderful woman and an incredible momma! She had helped talk me through many questions and concerns with both of my children, from pregnancy to potty training.” ~Amanda S.
“She is awesome! So glad she was there with us! Of course ours was almost like a little party for the first half! Lol. We were just hanging out talking, then when we got down to business she was such a great support & encourager & ready to help however needed until our little rocket shot out… Would use her again in a heartbeat, but we are done!” ~Stacey W.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: I am a crazy researcher so limiting this to just my favorites oh my! My top 3 resources for pregnancy/parenting; What to Expect When You're Expecting by Heidi Murkoff, the website TheBump.com, and my Merck Manual.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: My thoughts right after how much I miss it; are how is she being supported? So many women walk this journey alone. I want to be a part of the radical revolution to change the way birth happens and how birth is viewed.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Unconditional support, acceptance and encouragement. The new mom will rock this in her own way and in her own time. I am not there to judge anything. She will own it!
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Fixer Upper
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Love the mountains of Tennessee!
What is your favorite food?: This has changed so much lately, but I still love double stuffed vanilla oreos with milk!!!
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: My favorite way to spend a day off is wrapped up is a mommy pile of all my kids and husband watching a movie. Then later in the day to steal a few moments writing, reading and/or knitting or crocheting. The quiet moments fill my soul to keep giving to all the other areas in my life.
Who lives in your house?: I live with my amazing husband of 19 years, our 4 precious miracles Allison, Aaron, Adelynn, and Anderson and a enough pets to fill a small petting zoo.
