Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I am a mother of five beautiful children. Two boys and two girls. I have personally experienced different types of births. Such as home births, water births, hospital birth even a cesarean birth. I have been a home maker for the past 15 years. I also operated a home daycare specials in newborns.
What led you to become a Doula?: I had my first child in a birthing center with a midwife and a doula. My experience was amazing. I gave birth with the same team a less than year later and it was also a good experience. When I would sit and listen to other women’s birth story. I noticed a lot of negativity and hearing them say they would never do it again. I thought to my self how could I help other women have a more positive birth experience as I did. That’s when I googled how to become a doula.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
People often tell me how caring and responsible I am. I am also told that I am very down to earth supper funny and very confident in the work that I do.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: YouTube has amazing video on childbirth and pregnancy Spinning babies Baby center
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I wonder how she is feeling about the whole process? Dose she have good support team? Dose she have someone to talk to? And most of does she know her options?
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: One of my custom made postpartum kits. That includes a candle for relaxation. Sash of herbs for a postpartum bath. Nipple cream, a card with words of support and encouragement. There birth story from my perspective. And last but not least, my number to call if you need someone to talk to.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Call the midwife, Desperate housewives, One born every minute
What is your favorite place to vacation?: I have been to 16 country. the Maldives and South Africa has to be my favorite.
What is your favorite food?: Buffalo wings
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Organizing my house, catching up on my social media. Spending quality time with myself And personal needs. Reading a book and ending the night with a good movie on Netflix.
Who lives in your house?: My 5 kids and husband My kids are 14,13,12,11 and 2
