Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have spent over 10 years working in the public school system, first as a paraprofessional and then as a middle school science teacher. I am also an avid traveler, have a passion for photography, and have immersed myself in the birth world since the birth of my son! My work and personal experiences have exposed me to different cultures, personalities, and ways of thinking. I am a great listener and can look at situations from multiple angles. My goal is to be your extra set of eyes and support in your journey!
What led you to become a Doula?: I became very active in the birth world after the birth of my son. I have finally found my “community” and feel at home supporting families.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
I have been told that I am very intuitive and great at evaluating situations. I am also a great listener, trustworthy, and open minded. I asked my wife how she would answer this question for me and she said, “You are the most honest person I have met.” So I suppose that reinforces the above comments!
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: I am a researcher at heart but I don’t have one favorite spot to look. All I can say is when I want or need some information, no rock goes unturned!
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I get super excited and think to myself “she is on the most amazing journey life has to offer!”
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: The reassurance that whatever comes her way, she can and will make the best choices for her family.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: My favorite movie is “Love Actually”… I literally cry every time I watch it!
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Hmm a tough one… I have been to so many amazing places and have so many more I want to visit. I went on an archaeological dig in Kenya, which wasn’t exactly a vacation but was still incredible. I’ve traveled all throughout Europe… went glacier climbing in Alaska, scuba diving in the Caribbean… I love it all!
What is your favorite food?: I love trying new foods – There is a great Vietnamese restaurant near me that is amazing!
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Any day is a good day if it is spent with my family. We love our little outings and day trips.
Who lives in your house?: My wife, our son, two dogs, a cat, some fish and a few hermit crabs!
