Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have been supporting families choices for 25 years in pregnancy, birth, postpartum and parenting. I keep up to date on changes in techniques, and seek out skills that will benefit the families I work with.
What led you to become a Doula?: When I was expecting my first child I took a childbirth class, and knew that I wanted to be a childbirth educator. When I started supporting families in birth it was the logical next step. Then I saw a need for postpartum support.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
“Bev is worth her weigh in Gold”, “We could not have done it without her”, “She helped me through my many fears and was always available to me. She listened to my hopes and worries”, “Bev was calm and available as she was able to identify and meet needs quickly without us even asking.”, “I like to call Beverly my “Angel”. When I met her, my life instantly gained an added sense of peace to it”, Bev knew where the laundry soap was, without me needing to tell her.” “Even my husband loved her cooking”
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: I like to draw upon many different resources. Depending on the clients needs, I may suggest a book by Ina May, or Penny Simkin, or I may refer them out to a blog, or an organizations web page. I like to refer out to local resources when I can.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: Beautiful! Amazing! I remember when I had my little ones, and all the families I have supported over the years, and this makes me happy.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: The best gift I have to give is to trust and support her in her choices and wishes.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: I love NCIS, Walking Dead, Dr. Who, and my newest one is Designated Survivor
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Near water, the ocean is best. But snow has its place as well. Then there is just driving across the country and seeing new things.
What is your favorite food?: Mexican is a good place to start. But honestly, I love all sorts of different foods.
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: I like to go take pictures of nature, drive to find new places and new things, hanging out with my family and friends, or just playing around on FaceBook.
Who lives in your house?: I live with my oldest daughter, Jessie. She came back home, and it has been a good thing. We are both Postpartum doulas, and work together as well.
