Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: Being a mother of 2 boys, both with NICU stays, has been a huge influence on the work I do as a doula.
What led you to become a Doula?: My own birth and postpartum experiences and seeing that there was a gap to be filled when it came to labor and postpartum support led me to birth work. My NICU stays with my boys were filled with a lot of unknowns and uncertainties, but we had family living with us at the time that took care of the everyday tasks so we didn't have to. I don't know what we would have done without them and I don't want others to lack that support either. It has become a passion of mine to link arms with other women to help them feel supported in the choices they make in the prenatal and postpartum period and the overwhelm that can come along with bringing a new baby home.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
|I am often told how sensitive I am to what others are feeling, and put others needs before my own. I am referred to as sweet and caring and I love how each of my clients so far have been so surprised by what doula support has added to their births!|
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: instagram/podcasts. It may sound weird, but I have seen such a great variety of info and resources I wouldn't have found elsewhere including an awesome pelvic floor P.T. and some pretty great sleep consultants.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: What do they need/what can I do? both of those times were so uncertain for me, I felt like I had a million questions and I wasn't doing much of anything right. I love to point out when I see someone doing really well at something, or just hold a door or pick up something they dropped.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: self confidence. I feel like that is the hardest part of being a new parent is feeling unsure because you've never done this before when really your instincts are on point. There are so many instances where there is no right or wrong answer. rather what is right for your family and building their confidence when it comes to the decision they made.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?:
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Ludington, Michigan
What is your favorite food?: Meatloaf and garlic mashed potatoes
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Exploring with my hubby and boys. We love to check out new places with absolutely no agenda, just seeing what cool stuff we can find
Who lives in your house?: I live with my hubby and my two boys (ages 2 and 4)
