Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: Throughout my life, I have always been that "go to" person to friends and family, especially for pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. I have been the "mom" to my friends and I feel like that is huge because my work as a birth professional is to mother the mother.

What led you to become a Doula?: I am a huge researcher and have always loved knowing the hows and whys to things. I took lots of online courses for pregnancy and birth, read so many books and listened to tons of podcasts from midwives when I got pregnant with my first child and the birth was perfect. I got into quite a few mom groups on facebook and that is where I realized how flawed out healthcare system is when it comes to maternity care. I seen so many traumatic birth stories, stories where mom's needs were not met, or where informed consent did not occur. Then during my second child's birth, that traumatic birth story I read about became my reality. I wanted to do something. Anything. But there is so little you can do after the fact. I then came across a doula in my area and she explained what a doula does and I immediately felt drawn to this field of work. Knowing I can make an impact on so many women when they are in a vulnerable, yet precious space gives me so much gratification. In this season of a woman's life is when they need the most support and you can never have enough of that!

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

A positive comment that I have been told throughout my life that stuck in my brain from many people is that I am someone that is the happy person all the time. That no matter what troubles or obstacles I am going through, I am able to leave those troubles at home and be able to experience the feelings of what I am doing. My swim coach said this is my recommendation letter for a college program.
I have also been told that I am “the mom” of my friendgroups. I think this is positive because it shows how caring I am with others.
