Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I've been a professional body piercer for 8 years, so I understand how to coach someone through physical pain as well as maintaining an aseptic or sterile environment.
What led you to become a Doula?: My mother gave birth to me at home with the assistance of a midwife and doula, so the connection to birth work for me is quite a personal one. My mother has been outspoken on how that experience has been such a positive one for her and I would love to help women through a life-changing period. I was further convinced that I needed to be in this line of work when I saw the documentary "The Business of Being Born", I knew that I wanted to play a role in helping women feel comfortable in their own bodies through the birth experience.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
I’ve been told that I can provide a warm and welcome atmosphere as well as plenty of knowledge.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Anything by Ina May Gaskin, her knowledge has greatly impacted my drive to be a doula.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I always just hope that she is proud of herself, and that she feels empowered.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Support. Emotional, physical and mental.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Game of Thrones
What is your favorite place to vacation?: The mountains in beautiful Colorado, or the Pacific Northwest.
What is your favorite food?: Sushi. Mmmmm.
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Just hanging out with my husband, or maybe playing some video games.
Who lives in your house?: My husband Evan and I live in a house that is governed by our dog and two cats (who are absolutely bonkers).
