Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I am a pregnant and postpartum fitness specialist. My passion is to help women feel strong and powerful during this transitional time. I love helping women feel safe, competent and cared for.
What led you to become a Doula?: In my line of work I’ve seen how birth can be either incredibly empowering or incredibly traumatic. I want to help more women feel empowered by their birth experiences. Also, I have had two birth experiences that weren’t quite what I had hoped for. And yet , in my second birth I was much more supported and it felt so different! I want to support others the way I was supported.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
I’ve been told that I am inspiring, a caring friend. I’ve been called a strong, powerful woman. I’ve been told that I’m an amazing body worker.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Hmmm...the scholarly articles on Google. I’ve been a part of a lot of moms groups. I’ve read a ton of what-to-expect books and have found that if I really listen to my voice I will know what my child needs.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I always wonder if the mom has the support she needs, if she’s sleeping, if she truly knows how amazing she is.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Asking what they really need and giving them the support or information they need based on that. Simply holding space for them and their unique needs.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Pose
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Sedona, Arizona
What is your favorite food?: Grilled Cheese Sandwich
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: I’m a big fan of a great hike or a day at the pool.
Who lives in your house?: I live with my amazing, love-of-my life husband, my kind and athletic older son, my precocious and tenacious younger son, my adventurous mom and our cuddly pit bull.
