Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have been providing Infant and Child Care for families for 10 years, as well as working professionally with ages 0-16 months since May of 2016. I graduated from Pittsburgh Technical College in October of 2015, and also acquired my Therapeutic Massage Therapy License that same month. With my continued education in Massage I have become specialized in Pregnancy and Infant Massage. Growing up I have always known that working with families was going to be a big part of my life, and I am very passionate about providing unconditional support and promoting wellness to everyone I have the privilege of working with.
What led you to become a Doula?: Coping with Chronic Pain that developed as a young girl introduced me to what Western Medicine and life in a hospital was all about. I had to learn to recover not only physically, but emotionally from what surgery and illness can bring. Exposure to the miracle that is the human body and what it is capable of doing and overcoming, was a very humbling and enlightening experience to have. Having my mother with me everyday, and nurses who were exceptional at teaching me to have faith in myself, was paramount for the emotional growth and wellness I possessed from then on. Seeing women who could light a candle in the face of trials inspired me to seek out a profession where I could do the same. It is my goal in life to inspire women to take pride in their health and resilience, and raise their children with the same love and devotion my mother has given me.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
The most flattering comment I have received from someone I have worked with is that they can tell I care about people. Hard work cannot be substituted, and genuineness cannot be faked.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: *
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: Like most people, I feel immense joy and excitement when I see a pregnant woman and her growing family. As a Doula it is very instinctual for me to wonder how she is feeling and what kind of support she has around her in this special time of her life.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: The best gift I can give a new mom as a birth worker is peace of mind and assurance. Worrying as a new parent is inevitable, and if I can give a new mom a sense of comfort and security through my work, it would be a great success
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: I am a huge movie fan! One of my favorite feel-good movies is "About Time", and I also love to watch Turner Classic Movies in addition to Paranormal Thrillers.
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Any trip that involves a body of water is my favorite place to be. I love to swim, kayak, and be outdoors; especially in hot weather.
What is your favorite food?: My mother always told me I was a good eater from the day I was born, so there aren't many things I do not like to eat. My favorite foods are turkey wings, macaroni and cheese, and I also LOVE seafood.
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: My favorite way to spend a day off is usually lounging in any fashion!
