Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work:

What led you to become a Doula?: I studied pre-med/biology in undergrad and during my studies found herbal medicine. I changed the course and began studying herbalism instead of western medicine. This 'alternative' form of preventative medicine opened up SO many avenues of health that I had never thought about before. This is when I discovered what a Doula is and instantly fell in love with the idea of helping inform, educate and guide birthing persons into parenthood.

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

“Fantastic experience! I would not have felt like i could do this without her [Coral’s] support, guidance and information. Coral created such a supportive and sacred birth and pregnancy experience for me. She can see five steps ahead and allowed me to feel like I had all the tools I needed for a comfortable birth because of her experience and foresight. Coral was an integral part of my birth team and I was blessed to have her. I feel like I hit the doula jackpot. Anyone that works with her is a lucky woman.”

~ Allie L.

“Coral was amazing. She helped me during my pregnancy to form a birth plan and be calm and ready for birth. She was prepared to help with anything we needed regardless of what it was, even offering to help with farm chores when I went into labor. She was kind as could be and so understanding. When it became clear that I wasn’t going to have the birth I was expecting, Coral was right on top of things and instantly had many resources and options for me so regardless of what happened it felt like my choice. I would highly recommend her for anyone expecting.”

~ Annie M.

I couldn’t have had a better experience throughout my pregnancy and delivery. Coral was so thoughtful, caring, and so incredibly knowledgeable. [She] was always available to answer questions and [she] truly cares so much about her clients. I have such a special place for her in my heart. [She] made me feel so secure. With Coral present at my delivery, I felt safe and in control. I would recommend her without hesitation!

What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Some of my favorite pregnancy resources are: Evidence Based Birth (evidencebasedbirth.com) The Birth Partner by Penny Simkin Anything by Ina May Gaskin Anything by Aviva Romm Kelly Mom (kellymom.com) ICAN (International Cesarean Awareness Network - ican-online.org) La Leche League (llli.org)

What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: Well, my first thought is, HOW EXCITING! I am the type to see a pregnant person and [quietly] light up for them. It's such an amazing transition and magical experience. I soon after begin to hope that this pregnant person has all the support and education they need to feel like they can have an empowered and beautiful birth.

What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: I believe the best gift any new parent could receive is a willing, open heart and ears ready to listen. There are so many physical things you can use as a new parent, and those are very important but, I believe more than anything you could buy, it is most important to allow new parents to feel supported and heard. It can be a very vulnerable and overwhelming time and as a birth worker I have found it hugely helpful to just be available and loving to new parents.

What is your favorite TV show or movie?: My favorite movie is a Dutch film called Broken Circle Breakdown. It's a sad one, so bring the tissues.

What is your favorite place to vacation?: Anywhere I can camp and swim!

What is your favorite food?: I would say it's a two way tie between quiche and tabouleh.

What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: This really depends on the season. If it's warm, you can find me either soaking up the sun by the nearest body of water or hiking a mountain with my partner. If it's cold, I prefer to stay in - cuddled up right next to our wood stove with a good book or movie and a big cup of tea.

Who lives in your house?: My household is my partner and I along with our wolfdog, Kimba, and our dwarf bunny rabbit, Alabaster.
