Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: After many years of caring for infants and young children in a childcare setting, two pregnancies and births of my own, and helping friends through concerns in their pregnancies and postpartum period, I decided to train and certify as a Labor and Postpartum Doula through ProDoula.
What led you to become a Doula?: I have had a passion for birth and babies for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I always dreamed of being a mother. Pregnancy, birth, and taking care of babies was what I wanted to do. At that time, I didn't even know doulas existed so I initially pursued a career in childcare. After giving birth to my second son, I really realized my passion for not only children, but for the exact type of work that doulas do.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
“You have such a beautiful heart”
“You’re always there when I need someone”
“I never have to worry that you will judge me on issues I am having. I can talk to you about anything”
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: I really love local mom/parenting groups and meetups. I think being able to get together with other parents in your community who are going through the same things as you are is invaluable as an expectant or new parent.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: The first thing that I feel when I see a pregnant person or a parent with a brand new baby is excitement. A huge smile spreads across my face and I wonder when the due date is or how old the baby is. I'm curious on how the family is doing, how adjustment with a new baby is, if they have enough support.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Unconditional, unbiased, judgment-free support, in whatever way they need to be supported.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: This is Us, The Resident
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Anywhere we can drop our camper and be outdoors.
What is your favorite food?: I love basically all fruit, and also comfort foods - mac n cheese, pasta, my mom's chili
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: In summer, I love to spend days off outside with my kids. Hiking, swimming, even just sitting in the shade and watching them play or reading a book. In colder months, I love to curl up on the couch with a blanket and a cup of tea reading a good book or watching a movie.
Who lives in your house?: My husband, myself, and our two wonderful sons, along with my mom and our dog.
