Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: B.S. in Psychology and M.S. in Social Work with concentrations in child development and family therapy.
What led you to become a Doula?: I have seen the need for emotional support for women and families during birth and the postpartum period through personal and professional experiences. I received support from a Midwife and Doulas during my pregnancies and deliveries and they were invaluable. I become further appreciative of the support that I received each time I learn other people’s birth stories who did not have this support. During my professional career I have noticed a lack of emotional support for women and families during these times of intense stress and transition.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
I am caring, trustworthy, and open minded.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Professionals such as doctors, midwives, and fellow therapist as well as factual books and scientifically based articles.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: Wonder and joy about the beauty and promise of new life, and concern about whether or not she has the level of support that she needs.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Non Judgmental support.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Wonder Woman is my favorite TV show and my favorite movie is Star Wars
What is your favorite place to vacation?: I enjoy vacationing where I can relax and enjoy the beauty of nature or historical locations.
What is your favorite food?: Watermelon.
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Having fun with my family.
Who lives in your house?: My husband and I, our 5 children, 4 dogs, and 4 cats.
