Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: The births of my own seven children, including one set of twins! Six of my babies were born at home with the support of a midwife. My years of nourishing them as infants, raising them through childhood, and supporting them as adults, has given me the experience that I feel is very beneficial to being a birth doula.
What led you to become a Doula?: My own labor and birthing experiences, of course! And, several years ago I had the privilege of supporting a close friend through the labor and birth of her first child. It was an amazing and eye-opening experience for me! Even though I was nervous at first, (wondering if I was going to be a help or a mess!) I found that it just came naturally to me...the words I spoke and the support I gave instilled strength in her and reduced her fears...and mine, too! It was then that I knew that I wanted to be a Doula.
