Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I am proactive in my community with my moms club, a member of a local mops group, a big sister to moms club international, and a contributor to Detroit Mom's Blog. As you can see, I am all about supporting woman as much as I can.
What led you to become a Doula?: I had my son out-of-state and didn't have a village to help me. I was later diagnosed with postpartum anxiety and postpartum depression. I went on a search to help find a way to prevent this from happening to other moms. I stumbled upon postpartum doula work, and knew it was my calling.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
I’m passionate, caring, resourceful, and dedicated.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Kellymom - La Leche League - The Wonder Weeks - The Happiest Baby On The Block
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: The love and care they will/do have for that little bundle. However, I often wonder if they have their village of unconditional support, resources for concerns/questions, and how much they probably need help.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: A NAP! Let me take care of your little love, while you get some rest. Also, unconditional support and care for the family. Reassurance when they are worried, and being helpful when they are unsure.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: I love the Chicago series - PD, Fire, Med ---Anything on Bravo, too.
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Aruba
What is your favorite food?: Homemade cheese ravioli
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: I'm a mom so, as you know, we don't generally get a day off. If I am free from duties, I love enjoying a HOT cup of coffee and some time with my friends.
Who lives in your house?: My husband, Mike, and my son, Vinny.
