Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: Mother of an energetic and sweet 5 year old boy. I have over 20 years of experience working in television, entertainment and professional sports. I am exceptionally sensitive being around high profile athletes, celebrities and businesswomen. Confidentiality and professionalism are of the utmost importance with any client. Went through a difficult pregnancy in my late 30's. My son was born breach, had a C-Section and dealt with almost a year of severe colic and postpartum. I am extremely compassionate with new moms and their babies. I want nothing more then to help women that are going through the same thing I did.
What led you to become a Doula?: One of my best friends went from working in television to becoming a neonatal intensive care nurse. I would volunteer as a "Cuddler" at her hospital, just sitting and holding the babies who were left alone without family for whatever reason. Touch and bonding are so important with a newborn. After a number of years she is now a nurse for The Cradle adoption agency. I have a lot of friends who are new moms over the age of 35. Being a mom and helping them with their new life transitions has been profoundly fulfilling.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
Diana is extremely compassionate and is there for me when I need her the most. She is a wonderful should to cry on, a great listener and counselor. Most importantly, I trust her with my most inner thoughts and emotions. She is honest and tells it like it is.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: My friends with older children.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I wonder if she needs help with anything? Is she going through what I went through? She should ask for help if she needs it. I hope she has the kind of support system that I had. If she has the "baby blues" I hope she's doing everything possible to get through this rough patch.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: No one comes to the house without bringing food or doing a load of laundry. To let the new mom know that you are there for her wherever and whenever needed. When help is offered, take it.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: TV Shows: Seinfeld, The Office, Downtown Abbey, 24, Project Runway, Top Chef - Movies: 100 Foot Journey, Shawshank Redemption, Planes, Trains & Automobiles, The Princess Bride, Old School, Wedding Crashers, Inside Man
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Cabo San Lucas
What is your favorite food?: Thai, Chinese or Mexican
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: A class at the gym, lunch with friends, an outdoor activity or field trip with my son and husband, watch a great movie, reading and snuggle time before bed with my sod Aidan (THE BEST)
Who lives in your house?: My super supportive husband Michael, my highly energetic Son Aidan, my dog Fiona and 2 cats, Alice "Cooper" Rocker Kitty & "Grace" Kelly Princess Kitty
