Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have been a child care professional since 2005 and my experience ranges from newborn to 5 years old, plus I am a proud mother of 2. These past 15 years working with young children taught me patience, respect and to value the differences in everyone involved in the process of raising children. Plus I have “hands on” Doula experience volunteering at San Francisco General Hospital for over a year.
What led you to become a Doula?: When I gave birth to my son over 15 years ago I was very young, had little money and no family here in the USA. I was provided a Doula by the hospital which was a godsend and put my “first time mom” anxieties at ease. I wish to provide the same soothing experience that was given to me to other moms.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
“Edna is the most caring, honest, and hardworking nanny we have ever had.”
“Edna puts her heart into her job and the love she has for our children and family as a whole shows in her work.”
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Online mother’s groups (i.e. Golden Gate Mother’s Group) Books(i.e. The happiest Baby on the Block by Harvey Karp, M.D., Baby-Led Breastfeeding… by Christina M. Smillie, M.D., The Sleepeasy solution) Professionals I met while volunteering at the hospital.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: First I feel overjoyed and happiness for her; then I think how can I help her in through this new beautiful journey.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: All of these, as much as they need: Support, Comfort, and Peace of Mind.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Blacklist (TV Show)
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Bermuda
What is your favorite food?: Sushi and Oysters
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Getting a massage and then a mani/pedi.
Who lives in your house?: My husband, my teenage son, my toddler daughter and I.
