Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: – I have 15 years of experience as a doula, I am the Head of the Postpartum Department at Northeast Doulas. – I specialize in multiples (twins, triplets and quadruplets) – I specialize in sleep issues for infants, older babies and toddlers – I gave birth naturally with a midwife, this was a huge learning experience for me! – Extensive breastfeeding knowledge and experience
What led you to become a Doula?: MANY years ago I called a career counselor. We talked extensively (about me) for a while and then she told me that she had just given birth to her third child. She told me she thought it was a terrible mistake, that she cried in bed all day and didn’t care if her older children ate or went to school. It was clear to me that she was suffering from postpartum depression. She said that me calling her was “meant to be” and she asked if I would help her. A couple of months later, my dear friend Randy Patterson called to ask what I had been up to, I told her all about the work I was doing and she said, “ELAINE, you’re a doula and don’t even know what to call yourself!”
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
Especially as it relates to sleep, I’ve been called a “blessing”, I’ve been told that I’ve improved the quality of families’ lives and that you couldn’t put a price tag on what I’ve given to their family.
