Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have always been "MOM" to everyone I know. As a teenager I worked with Migrant workers, taking care of special needs infants and toddlers. I then became a teacher in a daycare until I had my own children. I gave birth to 3 children, fostered 3 more, then became MOM to 3 wonderful stepchildren. I now have 4 more children -in-laws, and 11 grandchildren! Oh My! My background is saturated with taking care of families. I have worked with families by providing care from pregnancy through senior care and end of life services. One of the key elements in my services has always been meeting people where they are at, with unbiased support. I have learned that every family has their own unique style and signature and to become a person that family can trust, takes a person that can come in with non-judgmental and un-biased support.

What led you to become a Doula?: In 1998, a close friend asked me to be her support person for the birth of her 5th child, as her husband was away for work. Through this journey, I developed a deeper love for birthing and family connections. Since then, I have supported many others both through labor and postpartum, thinking that there should be a career for such work, as I loved it so much. It wasn't until 2017, while assisting a young mom through labor, that I heard of the word "DOULA"! I knew that this was my calling in life. Why had I never heard of a doula before? I had midwives! I had hospital births! I had been around births my whole life! Even now, as a working doula, most people ask me what a doula is. I have a driving passion to build awareness in the world about Doula's and the work we do to support new families through the vulnerable transition into parenthood. For me, to see the transition happening, and seeing the empowerment of the new person that is blooming, really tugs on my heartstrings.

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

For me, having Elaine by my side to guide me through the contractions and encourage me along the way was exactly what I needed. I felt she respected my wishes and was protective of my birthing space, but also offered wisdom when I wasn’t sure what I needed. ~Client

I tell everyone that I talk to about my births that if it were not for the love and support that I received from Elaine and her amazing doula services my births would not be something that I would be happy sharing about. Her tips and tricks carried me through two very strenuous all natural births and if I had to do it again, I would not hesitate with her by my side! ~ Client

Elaine puts people at ease, giving them comfort and freedom to express themselves. People know they are in a safe place when they are with Elaine. Elaine has an ability to ask questions to help others discover themselves, who they are and where they “fit” jn the world ~ Friend
