Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I am a registered nurse with 2 years experience in the hospital setting. I have also been a part of friend's births being their videographer!
What led you to become a Doula?: I have always been interested in births ever since watching TLC's "A Birth Story" during my summer vacations from school. (haha!) Throughout nursing school, I knew I wanted to become an OB/Labor and Delivery nurse. It was my favorite topic to study!! While in nursing school, I found out about doulas and reached out to a local doula to meet up to ask her questions about it. Took me 3 years, but I am now trained and able to practice as a doula!
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
“Elyse is attentive and kind. She is able to handle situations with control and grace. Her nature is steady, sure, and patient. She genuinely cares for those around her.” -Alissa S
“Elyse is caring, knowledgeable, and compassionate. Her passion for helping you achieve your best birth experience is apparent in every interaction. ” -Emily M
“I love talks and interactions with Elyse because she is always optimistic, positive, supportive when it’s a good situation and knowledgeable/advising when it’s a less than optimal situation. I know from first hand that she knows what she is talking about because she does research and is passionate about truth and the delivery of truth. She communicates in a way that I can understand and accept and she helps me feel more at peace and like I have learned after we talk.” -Faith K
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: I am a book nerd, so anything in book form is my FAVORITE!! I am currently reading "The Birth Partner" by Penny Simkin. I hope to extend my collection and write about what I read on my personal website!
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I think to myself: I hope that she (and her partner) surrounds herself with support during her birth and the immediate weeks following birth because I have witnessed the difference a doula can make in ensuring you have the best birth experience possible. No matter if it is baby number 1 or baby number 10!
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Hands down most important: Non-judgmental support. Emotional, physical, spiritual, relational... ALLLL the support.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Probably Friends : )
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Anywhere in the mountains!
What is your favorite food?: Blueberries (YUM!)
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Meeting up with a friend for coffee for 3 hours getting lost in discussing deep topics!
Who lives in your house?: My wonderful-beyond-wonderful half-hispanic musical-genius loving worship pastor hubby and my 2.5 year old yorkie poo named Jasmine ("Jazzy") after the Disney princess!
