Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I grew up as the oldest of three siblings, as well as over 50 cousins. I cannot remember a time when I wasn't watching babies, helping pregnant/nursing aunts, or chasing after toddlers. I grew up Protestant, and I volunteered in my church's nursery from the age of 11. When I was in college, I volunteered as a youth group leader for the church's middle school youth group. I have held babysitting and nannying jobs since the age of 13. At one point, I was a live-in nanny. I currently work with older children- but children nonetheless- as a paraprofessional and online learning facilitator at Grand River Prep High School in Kentwood, Michigan. I used to regularly volunteer at nursing homes. In short, I love people, and I have a soft spot for babies and mothers. I have cared for people- professionally and otherwise- ever since I can remember.gh School
What led you to become a Doula?: One of the women I used to babysit for is the co-owner of Gold Coast Doulas. She mentioned multiple times that I would make a good doula, so I decided to pursue it.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
“In everything she does, she acts with kindness towards the students and staff around her.”
-a coworker at Grand River Prep, as part of Staff of the Month nomination
I have had numerous people tell me that it is obvious that I truly care about and love people. I’ve been called kind many times.
One of the most touching things anyone has ever said to me was said by my mother-in-law; she told me that I am a calming presence and that there is a reason people want to be near me- because I “make them feel like things are alright.”
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: The Natural Parent Magazine!, ProDoula, DONA
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I always think about whether the mother is going through anything. Having gone through a lot in my own life (I don't have kids, but I went through a lot of bad stuff), I want to help others through whatever they're going through. I also always think about how beautiful and strong and amazing women are whenever I see pregnant or new mothers, and how proud I am to be a woman.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Love and compassion and one of the things I do best- a listening ear.

What is your favorite place to vacation?: Northern Michigan
What is your favorite food?: Thai Food
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Stay home all day with my husband and read, go on a run, and bake.
