Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: In addition to being a certified labor doula, I am also a licensed cosmetologist and makeup artist. I am very familiar with the power of touch and am accustomed to working with people in an intimate capacity. I believe my prior career has heightened my sensitivity to the needs of others!

What led you to become a Doula?: I have always enjoyed people and the intimate nature of my prior career. When I became pregnant, I became fascinated with pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. After working with a doula for my own birth and experiencing the power that it brought into my birthing space first hand, I knew that this would be a fulfilling career path for myself. Working in the birth world has truly connected my skill set of having empathy and compassion for others and my love for the informational side of birth work.

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

I would say that the most often received comments that I have heard about myself is that I am very caring, empathetic, and enthusiastic.

What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: I love the website Evidence Based Birth. It is a great resource to familiarize yourself with birth backed by factual information which is great, especially for my clients that crave in-depth information. Another great resource is The Birth Partner by Peggy Simkin. I believe this book really allows your partner to have context around what it means to be a great support person and a clear cut path to show them how.

What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: My first thought is I wonder how they are feeling. Loved ones are so excited about the arrival of the baby (and rightfully so!), but sometimes the parents get left behind. This is a life changing event and I am always curious about how other are coping and how I can best help them, whether it be a simple holding open of the door at a store to a stranger, or the well being of the people in my circle.

What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: The best gift that I can give new parents is the gift of knowing that someone is here for you not matter what. New parents need to know they have somebody in their corner to help them, a judgement-free ear to listen, and an open heart!

What is your favorite TV show or movie?: My favorite TV show is for sure The Office. I love Dwight!

What is your favorite place to vacation?: NYC, the best place on Earth, in my humble opinion!

What is your favorite food?: Hands down, its cheese!! Any cheese, all the cheese! :)

What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: My most favorite way to spend the day off is to go to the Buford Highway Farmers Market. I love exploring different cultures in each aisle and picking up something I would never have access to in a regular grocery store. Next, I hit the White Windmill Cafe and pick up some mango bubble tea and pastries. Then I head home and watch as my husband makes us a delicious meal on the Big Green Egg while I play outside with my daughter.

Who lives in your house?: Myself, my loving husband, and my silly and inquisitive 2 year old daughter. We also have three adopted fur babies. A bloodhound, a dachshund, and a snow white kitty!
