Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have been working with children and their families in a supportive role since my early teenage years. My experience as a nanny, teacher and general helper within my community are the experiences that led me to Postpartum Doula & Infant Care. Right before launching into my career as a doula, I was a toddler teacher at a Montessori inspired academy. I feel as though this experience has helped me to thrive in my ability to manage a busy, loving, active environment and still prioritize and accomplish what needs to be done. I have worked with many families who have children in every age group, from newborns- youth, and I feel as though this has given me a valuable perspective on family dynamics and how to generally anticipate needs of each individual family. I have supported families with multiples (triplets), families with partners who work shift work, families with a partner deployed overseas, and many first time parents.
What led you to become a Doula?: I feel it is engrained in my nature to be a helper. This combined with my experience, education, and love for children & people gives me the ability to be a calm, helping presence in the home. Bringing a new addition into the family is a beautiful new chapter, but always a change to navigate; I love being apart of a families journey while they ease into life with a new member!
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
“I had Erica’s help when my triplets were newborns. I can’t say enough how helpful it was to have Erica work with our family. She was willing to do whatever task was necessary and was not intimidated by three crying babies! I loved her company and encouraging manner. Erica has a lovely warmth to her and clearly cares for the families she works with. ”
“I am a mother of three, two boys and a baby girl. My oldest is 4, my middle child is 2 and my daughter is now 7 months old. My middle child has always been a ‘mommies boy’ and does not warm up to people quickly. Erica was able to gain his trust in a very short period of time. This helped me more than I can ever say because at that point she was able to care for him and my oldest while I tended to my daughter. I never had to ask for her to do anything, she saw things that needed to be done and just did them.”
“Erica was a huge help in my postpartum journey. Her kind heart and encouragement helped me get through some very rough days. She has a servant’s heart and is always ready to jump in and help relieve the pressure of life with a newborn.”
