Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have experienced birthing in a wide variety of settings -- large hospital, small hospital, birth center and home
What led you to become a Doula?: The unplanned homebirth of my daughter illustrated for me how environment and support can affect a birth. I was left with a powerful desire to help families create birth experiences that build upon their own preferences and priorities.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
The people in my life often tell me that I am warm and open. They see me as a good listener and a reliable friend.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Intuition can be our greatest teacher, but in terms of tangible resources I recommend www.kellymom.com, www.notjustcute.com and www.americanpregnancy.com
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I want every expectant or new mom to know that this phase of life can be wonderful. It can be beautiful, memorable and empowering. It can even be fun! Yes, parenting is challenging but with good support, it can be wonderful.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: The greatest gift I can give a client is my full attention. The magic of the birth room is that all other tasks and pressures are set aside for those focused, intense hours. The best thing I can do is give 100% of myself, my time, my attention
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: My favorite movie is The Wizard of Oz
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Probably a quiet beach somewhere
What is your favorite food?: Veggie fajitas
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: I would rather spend time with my family than do anything in the world
Who lives in your house?: My husband, 5 children and a sweet dog named Clover
