Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have a BA in Sociology and have always been interested in being an additional support to my community. For the last 7 years, I worked in the behavior and mental health field. With my field in mental health, and being a new mother myself, I would love to be an additional support to new mom's who may be experiencing a more difficult time transitioning after birth. I also have found a love for baby wearing and hope to be a baby wearing educator.
What led you to become a Doula?: I became interested in birth work when I learned about the Empowered Birth Project account on Instagram. This was a year before I decided to start my TTC journey. Once I decided that I wanted to become a mother, I dove into birth work and found that my true calling was in becoming a doula. Since, I have found so many avenues of birth work and am intrigued with placentas and using your placenta as an additional support in recovery.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
I have been told that I am very tenacious, I don’t give up. I have been told I am kind, friendly, compassionate, and a good listener. I have also been told that I am funny… I agree!
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: My favorite pregnancy and parenting resources are: Kind Mama by Alicia Silverstone, Nurture by Erica Chidi Cohen, The Womenly Art of Breastfeeding (LLL), The Bump (pregnancy and newborn app), The VBAC Link (podcast and Instagram page), Evidence Based Birth website and Spinning Babies
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: When I see a pregnant person or someone with a brand new baby, I become happy for them. I also wonder immediately how informed they are of all their options during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. I want all pregnant and birthing people to be well informed and have access to knowledge for their births and parenting journeys.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: I can give them the gift of knowledge if they are seeking knowledge or information. I also can give them a listening ear and a sense of calm and understanding. I love validating others' experiences and feelings and holding space with them
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: I am a huge fan of The Office, Parks and Recreation, Bob's Burgers, Shameless, and Jane the Virgin
What is your favorite place to vacation?: I enjoy visiting Phoenix, AZ
What is your favorite food?: I love all vegan food. Lately I've really enjoyed a good falafel wrap and fries.
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: My favorite way to spend a day off is with my husband and our newborn. I love waking up with them, having a slow morning at home, grabbing a decaf latte, and walking around TJ Maxx looking for great bargains!
Who lives in your house?: I live with my husband, our new baby girl Nasyah, and our 2 dogs Mindy and Frida.
