Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I'm a wife of 30 years, mother of 3 beautiful, successful and inspiring young adults, "I Am My Sisters Keeper" group member, Certified Labor Doula, Certified Postpartum & Infant Care Specialist and Pre-Certified Infant Feeding Specialist.
What led you to become a Doula?: What led me to become interested in birth work was constantly being told by many, that I have a nurturing and serving spirit. Along with that spirit comes compassion, concern and specific care for others in need. After speaking to my family and close friends, I decided to move forward in doing what I love to do. I love to take a woman that isn't feeling well or needs support in any way, give her whatever she needs/wants to feel better, even if it's just someone to be quiet and listen.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
Positive things that some people have said about me is that I have the best hugs. That my hugs contain love, comfort and the “you got this!” security within it. I’ve been told that I’m easy to speak with, I’m a good listener and that I’m compassionate, encouraging and understanding.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: What has become my favorite pregnancy/parenting resource, depending on what the circumstance or situation is that I'm looking into, is usually the internet, NOT SOCIAL MEDIA, the legitimate, informative internet. There are also 3 books that I found very helpful and interesting, The Birth Partners, Guilt Free Bottle Feeding and Breastfeeding Made Simple.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: When I see a pregnant person or someone with a brand new baby, I wonder, Is that her first baby? What does her support system look like for labor and PP? is she breastfeeding or bottle-feeding? I wonder how it's going? I'd love to spend some time with her and her baby and share my knowledge with her.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: The best gift that I can give new parents as a birth worker, is the best non-judgmental support in any capacity that they need.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: I don't have a favorite TV show or movie
What is your favorite place to vacation?: My favorite place to vacation is the Caribbean.
What is your favorite food?: My favorite food is a huge loaded salad!
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: My favorite way to spend the day off is to be spontaneous after the Spa of course!
Who lives in your house?: My husband and I just became empty nesters. During the summer, I live with my smart, medical major daughter and my wonderful husband.
