Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have a Registered Nursing background which includes Maternity experience. I have worked as an Education Assistant in the Public School System with all ages for over 15 years and love working with children. I’ve also been a mom and now a Grandma to four wonderful kids who I love to bits.
What led you to become a Doula?: I have always worked in jobs that helped and served people. With my love of people and children, becoming a doula is a natural extension of that. Bringing new life into the world is both a little terrifying and exciting at the same time – I’d love to make that journey a little easier by walking through it with those clients that would like to have that kind of support in a positive and non-judgmental way.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
I’ve always been a caring person. Other’s would say I’m always willing to help, that I’m a problem solver and have a caring attitude. They might also say I’m positive about kids, good to work with and a team player as well as knowing what to do with kids at certain times.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: I find that job and life experiences have taught me a lot of things. Training and reading up to date information that’s recommended are good resources to use.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: The thoughts that come to mind is of how special it is to bring a new little one into the world. It is both a miracle and a blessing, and my thoughts are that I hope it will be an all-around positive and personal growing experience for the mom and family.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: I believe the best gift I can give a new mom is to help her have confidence in herself as a mother and to believe in herself and her abilities.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: I love to watch the family drama show ‘Heartland’, good documentaries about our world and travel, and good movies that entertain as well as show and teach us more about ourselves.
What is your favorite place to vacation?: In the past we have loved going to Maui. More recently we have loved going to different places in BC, including the South Gulf Islands and Vancouver Island.
What is your favorite food?: I like many different kinds of food – but among my favourites are tasty salads, hamburgers, and chocolate milk (and peanut butter!).
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: So many things! Among them are doing things with my hubby like picnics and hikes in the Rocky Mountains, horseback riding and high on my list is spending time and playing with my grandkids.
Who lives in your house?: My husband and myself live in our house as well as Buddy, our four legged cuddly companion.
