Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have been told that I have a very kind heart and make people feel special. I love people and I love being able to support families in any way they need as they make their way into parenthood. It’s great to be able to mold to fit any role they need me to be for them. I have three daughters of my own and a lot of experience with trial and error as far as birth, breastfeeding and parenting go. I’m also a licensed massage therapist, so a great hand, foot, or shoulder massage during labor is guaranteed! Your newborn will love them also!
What led you to become a Doula?: Back in 1999 after the birth of my first daughter Murphy, I decided that I wanted to become a doula someday. I am finally in a season of my life that has allowed me to pursue my dream. I feel the uncontrollable pull to provide women and families in my community with professional and individualized support and encouragement to take part in their birth experience, no matter in which way they wanted to birth. I am confident and committed to providing families with premium, knowledgeable and unbiased support.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
I have been told that I am patient, compassionate, prompt, organized and professional. Someone recently told me that they admire how I raise my daughters to be kind, loving and accepting of others.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: I’ve found that I like to research and read about different thoughts on pregnancy and parenting. Each woman and family I support are different and I refer them to resources that are going to be helpful for them and their individual situations.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I hope that they feel supported and confident about their upcoming birth. When I see new parents, I hope that they are getting time to rest and bond with their newborn and that they are adjusting seamlessly with the new family dynamics.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: As a doula, I want to give a new mom confidence, a sense of being at ease and in control. Being a trusted, calming voice and always helping them navigate situations when needed without judgement or biases.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: I watch TV seasons on Netflix as I fall asleep each night. Lately my favorites are: Shameless, Gossip Girl, The Office, Lost, & Jane the Virgin. My favorite movie of all time is The Family Stone.
What is your favorite place to vacation?: I love the beach, but also love snow and mountains. Anywhere that makes me feel refreshed and relaxed.
What is your favorite food?: Guacamole! Seriously if for some reason, I would only be able to live on guacamole and tortilla chips I would be 100% ok with that!
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: On my day off I enjoy being with my family doing things together. We like to go check out new places in the area and visit our favorites like the Greater Cleveland Aquarium, Rocky River Reservation (for walking, kayaking and people watching at the boat ramp), Sunday Brunch at Alley Cat Oyster Bar…. My dad passed away unexpectedly in January of 2016. He would always take my mom on day-trips, they’d call them “adventures”. I have now taken over the role of the Adventure Captain, by being the one to take my mom on her adventures.
Who lives in your house?: I live with my three daughters, Murphy, Camryn & Finley in Medina, a historic town just south of Cleveland. We have three pets, our rabbit, Bunny Blue and two hearty goldfish we won at the county fair, Gummy & Gummy (proudly named by my 3-year-old).
