Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I am a mother to 5 and have had multiple different birth experiences. I am also a foster parent and have a lot of experience and training in child and adult trauma.
What led you to become a Doula?: I have always been a person who loves to care for others, and wanted to spend my take taking care of people or supporting them in ways that made a difference. I went to nursing school before getting married and having my children, as well as working in the hospital setting as a nurse assistant and then became a foster parent and mentor to women who had lost their children to child welfare but were able to get them back. The way I cared for and supported people throughout my life has looked different at different times, but the goal has always stayed the same... being there for someone who needs me. I was blessed to have a doula for my 4th pregnancy, and it made a huge difference for me and my labor/birth experience! After that, I knew that if I ever had the chance, i would want to become a doula and to that for other women! When the chance came about for me to pursue a new profession, I jumped at the opportunity to put my two main passions in life together; supporting and caring for others, and pregnancy/birth. I feel so honored to be able to come alongside families during this amazing time in their lives and be allowed into their sacred space.
