What led you to become a Doula?: Since childhood I've had a deep fascination with women's health, childbirth, and reproductive care. I've worked closely with mothers preparing for birth through yoga, and I love their hearts for their families. I want to empower women to have their best birth experience through understanding their options and believing in their own abilities to create life.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
“You are the only person I would want to have in the Labor room with me!”
“I love the sound of your voice.”
“You being a Doula just makes sense.”
“You will be a great mom, your words are commanding but gentle.”
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Evidence based birth; the Birth Partner - Penny Simkin; Taking Charge of Your Fertility, Toni Weschler; Prenatal Yoga classes; The Family Center in Wilmore, KY; Baby Moon in Lexington, KY
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: Love! I just want to give them a big hug. And then I want to hear what they're afraid of, and help them conquer that fear.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Freedom to be honest. You don't have to be the perfect mom, you don't have to have every detail planned. Just love your baby as best as you can right now, and don't be afraid to ask for help when you're feeling low energy. Other women have walked this road, we can help each other!
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: All time best: The Sound of Music with Julie Andrews. Recently: Sherlock, Once Upon a Time, Dr. Who, any Marvel film, Despicable Me, Emma Watson's Beauty & the Beast, Les Miserables, any musical or Opera
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Exploring new places! I love the beach, mountains, hiking, and finding new coffee shops and yoga studios wherever we go!
What is your favorite food?: I'm a foody who loves to cook, so I can't pick just one! My homemade lasagna; chicken cordon bleu; anything Cajun, Indian, or Thai; shrimp alfredo; risotto; my mac'n'cheese topped with smoked pork; homemade carnitas or shrimp tacos.... I'm always hungry.
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Sleeping late with my husband, making 2 cups of perfect pour over coffee, taking a hike with my pup, practicing yoga, cooking dinner for friends and family, and sleeping under the stars.
Who lives in your house?: Me, my husband Daniel, and my dog Hildegard.
