Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have been a certified nurses assistant for 11 years. I have worked in the labor & delivery nursery. I also briefly worked as a birth assistant.
What led you to become a Doula?: I am in school to be a midwife. Also I grew up around nurses and midwives. My mother was a labor and delivery nurse and worked with midwives. She is a huge inspiration. Also I had very positive birth experiences with wonderful birth teams. I want to give other women the safe, supportive, and calm birth experiences like I had. I want to be there for them like my birth team was there for me.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
I have a great attitude. I’m a hard worker. I’m calm under chaos. I’m very nurturing and kind. I don’t judge. If I say I’m going to do something I do it.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Any of Ina May Gaskin Books, I read these when I was pregnant with my own kids and they gave me alot of comfort.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I think about how awesome it is to be a mom. I wonder if they are going to have a doula and midwife.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Support, a nap, help educate her, be kind.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
What is your favorite place to vacation?: I love visiting Charleston, South Carolina
What is your favorite food?: Mexican Food or Pizza.
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Catching up on school work and hanging out with my kids.
Who lives in your house?: My boyfriend, three awesome children and our turtle Prince.
