Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have been a certified nurses assistant for 14 years. I have worked in every medical setting you can as a CNA My favorites were always mom and baby, labor and delivery and nursery. I'm also a mother to three great kids. My mom was a labor and delivery nurse and a midwives assistant. So you could say I've been surrounded by birth and birth workers majority of my life.
What led you to become a Doula?: I wanted to support women as they were learning how to become mothers. I wanted to support women during labor and help them navigate the pain and emotions and reach their desired outcome. I wanted to help make birth and postpartum positive happy times.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
I have a great attitude. I’m a hard worker. I’m calm under chaos. I’m very nurturing and kind. I’m nonjudgmental. If I say I’m going to do something I do it. People feel comfortable talking to me.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Any of Ina May Gaskin Books, I read these when I was pregnant with my own kids and they gave me alot of comfort.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I wonder if she has a good birth team. I wonder if she has a good support system for the postpartum period. I wonder if she is getting what she needs.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: A shower and the peace of mind that during her shower her baby is being well cared for, Or a good nights sleep knowing her baby is being well cared for, Someone to talk to about all the things people don't tell you about the postpartum period, someone who has the answers or knows where to find them.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: right now The marvelous Mrs. Maizel, The witcher, Call the midwife
What is your favorite place to vacation?: I love visiting Charleston, South Carolina however anywhere my family lives is always perfect.
What is your favorite food?: Asian or Mexican
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Catching up on school work and hanging out with my kids.
Who lives in your house?: My three amazing kids Aria 14, Benjamin 11 and Basil 4 also my partner Ryan.
