Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have been in education for over a decade and have assisted in births "by accident" for over half of my life. My career as an educator taught me the importance of advocacy. That combined with my natural sense to nurture is what I think will make me beneficial as a birth professional. What I thought was an accident I now realize was the universe showing me my calling years ago.
What led you to become a Doula?: My whole life I have been amazed by the continuation of life. More currently advocacy became the main reason. Through my personal research I have learned about the disparaging mortality rates of Black women compared to other ethnic groups. And it is the latter of the two that has peaked my interest and increased my determination to become a birth professional.
