Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: Mother of two sons. Certified Birth Doula - DONA International (with the desire to cross certify with ProDoula). Massage Therapist - Advanced Prenatal Certificate & Infant Massage Certificate. Postpartum Placenta Specialist - Pre-certified PPS ProDoula Prenatal Yoga Instructor - Prenatal Yoga Teacher Certificate.
What led you to become a Doula?: The birth of my first child really changed my world. All of a sudden, my life had intense meaning. I wanted to work harder, love more, and, learn everything. Birth is so transformative and needs to be supported - I saw this need. Doula work was the perfect fit.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
By a client, ” Her magnetism for serenity helped calm my nerves.” By a midwife, “Jennifer is a gift to the birthing community!”
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: It takes a village, right? My favorite resources is our community. I am grateful for my personal and professional communities and all of the resources we can pull together.
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I see pregnant women as the most powerful beings that walk this Earth . They are so inspiring in their abilities and their transformations from the birth process. Each and every pregnant woman is entirely beautiful! (And I usually let them know that!)
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Compassionate support. The transition to motherhood is wild (in a good way) but from that moment, life is non-stop. The Fourth Trimester is such a special, intimate, and vulnerable time that all the new mama needs is support. The reminder that she is an incredible mom and the best mother for her new baby.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: How I Met Your Mother
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Any place that has scenic views, phenomenal food, and good company! Bonus points if it has tall cliff faces to climb!
What is your favorite food?: Seafood - love cookin' up some crab pots!
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: I enjoy going to a yoga class and hanging from the side of a cliff (rock climbing) with my husband (that’s how we met!). Or, you can catch me biking around town with my family, or, rafting down the Payette River! I am always in ‘awe’ of this incredible planet when I backpack through the Sawtooths in the summertime. Or for my simple days, I just love mornings listening to vinyls, reading a good book while enjoying a cup of coffee.
Who lives in your house?: My incredible husband, Russell, that supports and loves me endlessly. Our two sons, Cayden Brooks and Cedar Anson, who have completely changed my world and have put so much happiness and love into it. And our blue heeler - terrier mix that is the best hiking buddy out there!
