Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I’m a mom of 5 with a degree in Medical Business Administration. I have a very diverse training background and always strive to learn more.
What led you to become a Doula?: After feeling horrible judgment after the birth of my 5th child; I set out to find a career where I could support women through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. This lead me to becoming a doula without any judgment and with the ability to support unconditionally through any/all choices needing to be made.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
“Jessica’s skills and experience as a doula went above and beyond my expectations!”
“Having her help my husband know what to do made him feel like he played a much more active role than he thought he would in bringing our baby girl into the world. It felt like she could read my mind in what I needed, whether it was a back rub, walk, hip-squeeze, or to be left on my own to relax through contractions in the bathtub.”
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: ACOG website, evidencebasedbirth.com, Life of Dad, Scary Mommy
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: What an exciting time in her life; I hope she has the support and understanding she needs to thrive. She’s doing an amazing job!
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Understanding and compassion; it can be so rough out there being a new mom (and new parent), having someone who doesn’t judge you and can support you though any decision is so vital!
