What led you to become a Doula?: Many years ago I stayed with and assisted Gogo Nzima (local midwife) with a birth in Southern Africa. I very much admired her. I went on to nursing school and became a Family Nurse Practitioner, my favorite work always being with women, children and babies.

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

People have told me I had a good bedside manner, was empathic, open minded, energetic, adventurous, fun, good sense of humor, serious and thoughtful.

What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: The Birth Partner, Spiritual Midwifery and The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding.

What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: The beauty, power and potential of this developing child as well as the huge responsibility for parents and ideally if possible the community. Then wondering how much support is available to the parent (s)....and how she/he is feeling about this new change in their lives. Feeling that all babies and parents deserve a secure and nurturing environment.

What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Support and understanding. Meeting them where they are in the process of parenthood.

What is your favorite TV show or movie?: This is a hard one, I love a lot of movies....Dr. Zhivago, The Mission, Ryan's Daughter...

What is your favorite place to vacation?: In the Rockies

What is your favorite food?: I also love a lot of foods ....I guess I would say Indian foods then Thai.... seafood.

What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Hiking in a beautiful place with a good friend.

Who lives in your house?: Usually my 2 dogs, my cat and I, but often have a student join me for the summer.
