Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have been practicing as a doula for 18 years (DONA Trained). I did 3 years of a Nursing degree (but was unable to complete due to a car accident)
What led you to become a Doula?: I originally attended the birth of my nephew 19 years ago and realized the important of constant support through birth; I quickly discovered the whole role of the doula and took the training.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
People often comment about how I am very comforting, especially during times of distress. I am very good at being calm and focused when it is most needed.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: Local baby/new parent groups, Evidencebasedbirth.com and perinatalservicesbc.ca and breastfeedingonline.com
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I always wonder what kind of support they have had and have now.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Support! Helping them see that they are enough, and helping them feel their confidence as a new mother.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Six Feet Under
What is your favorite place to vacation?: By the ocean, lake or river.
What is your favorite food?: Soup! The ultimate comfort food.
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Making are, or adventuring with my family.
Who lives in your house?: My Partner, our 7 year old daughter, our cat and guinea pig.
