Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I’m a wife, mother to three and a passionate advocate for women! While I believe giving birth to three children has equipped me with more knowledge about this area of life; my biggest take away has been realizing how different each pregnancy, birth and the needs of mothers are. I’m obsessed with researching anything I’m walking through, so when going through my own pregnancies and births I immersed myself into it. I feel this has made me a wealth of knowledge for my clients and I am always ready to learn the next new thing! Participating in the ProDoula training was interactive and engaging and has equipped me with everything I need to be by your side.
What led you to become a Doula?: Mind, body and soul; pregnancy and birth is a transformative experience. It’s an experience that shapes you and your partner into parents! This journey can be smooth sailing and it can have some storms but I think support and community are a necessity during this stage of life and that is what has led me to become a doula.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
When I told my friends that I wanted to look into becoming a doula they were all so excited; one even said, if I had to think of someone to be a doula, it would be you, this job is perfect for you! Everyone else agreed, they’ve often commented on my ability to listen deeply and going the extra mile to help someone when they need it or even when they say they don’t!
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: I have so many, research is my favorite! If I had to name a few though, I love the “mama natural” website for getting new information in a concise format and Hypnobabies is my top way for working through pain in child birth and that breath work sure does come in handy when their toddlers too!
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I’m kind of like your grandma with, “Oh that’s so sweet, or I just want to squish those cheeks!” All squeezing aside, I love it, I think bringing new life into the world is so profound. I can’t help but think about how strong that mom is and how lucky her baby is to have her.
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: As a doula, when I come into your world, I have the compassion and understanding to step up and step in. Just like the newborn needs to be nurtured, you as new parents deserve to be seen, heard and taken care of. Providing you a voice by listening is one of my top priorities.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: This Is Us
What is your favorite place to vacation?: Florida
What is your favorite food?: Burgers
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: For me the best way to spend a day off is getting to do some sort of project, I’m not one to really sit still for very long. I love trying new things when it comes to crafting and getting creative, so this can be anything from crocheting a blanket to building an end table for my living room.
Who lives in your house?: My husband Sawyer and I live in a quaint, vintage styled home with our three children, Kinsley, Esme and Percy.
