Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I am current in CPR and First Aid. I have a degree in Early Childhood and years of experience working with children, infant through school age. I also have 2 children of my own.

What led you to become a Doula?: I have found having children to be a most profound gift and honor. The joy they bring is beyond any other relationship I have. Any change, however, brings along a transition time with challenges of its own. I have a strong desire to help support families as they begin forming that bond, helping to empower them in their new (or continuing) role as mother, father or sibling.

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

I have been told that I am a good listener who doesn’t judge when others share. Others have told me that I create an inviting atmosphere in my home where you can “come as you are.”

What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: I like bellybelly.com.au, birthsource.com and kellymom.com. I think having experienced moms as a resource is invaluable, and new moms bring a great deal of knowledge to “what’s new” in mothering. The key is to have lots of resources, taking them all in and making the decisions that are right for your family.

What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: I feel a great amount of joy as I believe “motherhood” is a special community. I then think about how I could support her during her delivery and as she gets to know that little one.

What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: I believe the best gift I can give a new mom is the confidence that she can do this! She IS a good mom.

What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Believe it or not, my favorite movie is “She’s Having a Baby.” Watching the couple figure out who they are and how that translates to being parents feels a lot like how my own birth story started out.

What is your favorite place to vacation?: I love Southern California, but anywhere with the ocean will do!

What is your favorite food?: I love sushi!

What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: I love being in the pool with my family.

Who lives in your house?: I live with my husband. Our son lives with us on and off as he attends college – as will our daughter when she graduates from high school in the spring. We also have 2 miniature dachshunds (our 4-legged babies!)
