Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: My first job after high school was at the complete other end of the spectrum compared to birth work. I worked with seniors, some even nearing the end of their life. This was where I learned the very real importance of non-judgemental care. My whole job was caring for these precious seniors in their everyday life, which included some extremely intimate and vulnerable moments. No matter what situation they were in, I couldn't judge. They were people with a life and a story, and I was just meeting them where they’re at and helping them along. So even though birth and old age are opposite, the similarity is that they are a monumental part of your life story, a chapter where you might need a bit of extra support but you're still the hero of the story and you deserve someone to support you as such.
What led you to become a Doula?: I have always been interested in birth. The whole process is just such a miracle! I always admired the strength required but also the process of surrendering involved in birth. I knew I wanted to do something involving birth, but it wasn't until after I took a ProDoula training that I realized my passion for birth could be turned in to a career.
