Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: Certified Lactation Counselor, Sacred Birthing Doula School, Heal your own birth workshop, Quantum Touch workshop, Prenatal massage workshop
What led you to become a Doula?: My best friend got pregnant and I found myself naturally supporting her throughout the highs and lows of her pregnancy, birth and now motherhood. With a background in social work, I am drawn to empowering people to find the strength within themselves to obtain their life goals. This transfers beautifully to birth work with women and families.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
Caring and nurturing, grounded and earthy, creative and artistic, sweet and gentle. I like to laugh and giggle a lot and have been told that I have a pleasant and contagious laugh.
What are your favorite pregnancy/parenting resources?: The first two books that drew me into birth work were Spiritual Midwifery by Ina May Gaskin and Birthing from Within by Pam England
What thoughts come to mind when you see a pregnant woman or brand new mom?: How is she feeling? Does she have the support she wants and needs?
What is the best gift you can give a new mom (as a Doula)?: Offer her non-judgmental listening, more time to herself, a cup of tea and a bath
What is your favorite TV show or movie?: Captain Fantastic - a film about a father raising his six children in the forests of the Pacific Northwest
What is your favorite place to vacation?: The island of Kauai, although when I visit I don't leave. The ultimate magical paradise! This is also the home of my Sacred Birthing Doula school
What is your favorite food?: Fried plantains! And anything chocolate (of course!)
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?: Morning meditation and yoga, hike to and swim in a waterfall, harvest plans to imprint in my pottery, go home to make some art, eat a home cooked meal, and drink some tea by the fire while reflecting on the beautiful day with the company of my partner, friends or even just myself
Who lives in your house?: I live in a communal home of like-minded artists (potters, cooks, farmers and more). We also live with a bunch of furry friends.
